Core Scientific Skills
Fuelling the Future Challenge offers students the chance to dive into the exciting world of hydrogen-powered vehicles, aligned with the Australian Curriculum's focus on scientific inquiry and innovation. As the world of motorsport shifts towards sustainability, students will research the potential of hydrogen fuel in F1® racing, design solutions to enhance vehicle performance, and create a 3 minute video showcasing their innovative ideas and findings. This challenge encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and the practical application of science to solve real-world challenges in the motorsport industry.
Curiosity and Exploration
Investigating Hydrogen Power - Students begin the challenge by exploring the potential of hydrogen fuel in motorsports, sparking curiosity about its benefits and applications. They ask key questions about how hydrogen-powered vehicles could revolutionise racing. This aligns with the Science Inquiry Skills strand, encouraging students to pose questions, form hypotheses, and investigate new energy sources.
Sustainability Focus
Understanding Green Energy Solutions - As students examine the environmental impacts of traditional fuels versus hydrogen, they gain insights into sustainability and renewable energy. This ties into the Science as a Human Endeavour strand, helping students understand how scientific developments shape sustainable practices in industries like F1®.
Innovation and Problem-Solving
Designing the Future of Racing - Through the challenge, students apply engineering and technological concepts to design hydrogen-powered vehicle solutions. They generate ideas, test models, and refine designs, linking directly to the Design and Technologies strand, which fosters innovative thinking and problem-solving.
Collaboration and Communication
Working as a Team - Students collaborate in teams to research, design, and communicate their ideas through a video presentation. This process aligns with the General Capabilities – Literacy and Critical Thinking strands, as students refine their ability to work together, communicate their findings, and present solutions effectively.
Technological Application
Integrating Science and Design - By engaging in hydrogen fuel research and vehicle design, students integrate technology and science, applying these concepts to real-world motorsport challenges. This aligns with the Digital Technologies strand, encouraging students to develop and evaluate innovative, energy-efficient systems.
